Mala was called to the Singapore bar in 1992 and to the Bar of England & Wales prior to that in 1990. As a practising lawyer in Colin Ng & Partners Sinclair, Roche & Temperley Joint Law Venture and Low Yeap Toh & Goon, long standing large and mid-sized law firms respectively, Mala gained experience in most areas of general practice work primarily family law, probate, criminal matters, personal injury, employment law, debt collection, intellectual property protection and infringement, defamation and post judgement issues in these areas.
In later years, her experience as inhouse legal counsel (of an insurance company and later as inhouse counsel for an e-commerce subsidiary of a telco,) enabled her to gain wide ranging experience in legal and operational issues relating to both general and life insurance matters including her specialist areas of personal injury claims litigation and medical negligence. Reading hundreds of medical reports for various types of orthopaedic, psychiatric and trauma related nerve injuries from motor vehicle accident claims eventually led to Mala to gaining a foothold in medical negligence claims, as well, of which her interest has reaped returns for her clients.
Currently, Mala practices out of her own boutique practice firm in a group law practice setting and handles a myriad of general practice work from contested and uncontested probate and family law matters, wills and trust matters, personal injury claims, pretrial and post trial criminal work, debt collection, employment advisory, contested and uncontested mental capacity applications, trademark applications/infringement, copyright infringement, defamation, ACRA regulatory matters and other general corporate matters arising from her experience as former in house counsel for an ICT subsidiary.
Mala is a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public.
